Why ToFormat?
iPhone & iPad Compatible
HEIF (HEIC) is the default photo format on Apple devices since iOS 11. Convert your iPhone and iPad photos to universally compatible formats — or convert any image to HEIF for Apple ecosystem optimization.
50% Smaller Than JPG
HEIF uses HEVC (H.265) codec compression to deliver roughly half the file size of JPG at equivalent visual quality. Apple chose HEIF specifically for efficient photo storage on mobile devices.
Batch Processing
Upload up to 20 HEIF/HEIC files at once — perfect for converting an entire iPhone photo library. Choose output format, adjust quality, download in seconds.
Fast & Secure
Instant server-side conversion with automatic file deletion within 10 minutes. No registration, no watermarks, no data collection.
About HEIF/HEIC Format
HEIF (High Efficiency Image Format) was developed by the MPEG group and standardized in 2015. HEIC is Apple's specific implementation using HEVC (H.265) compression — the terms are often used interchangeably. Apple adopted HEIF as the default camera format starting with iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra in 2017.
HEIF delivers approximately 50% better compression than JPG at equivalent quality, supports 10-bit color depth for smoother gradients, full alpha channel transparency, and can store image sequences (Live Photos), depth maps, and auxiliary data in a single file container.
The main challenge with HEIF is compatibility outside the Apple ecosystem. Windows requires the HEIF Image Extension from the Microsoft Store, Android support varies by manufacturer, and web browsers have limited or no HEIF support. This makes conversion essential for sharing iPhone photos universally.
When to Convert From HEIF/HEIC
For universal sharing — most non-Apple platforms struggle with HEIF. Convert HEIF to JPG for photos that work everywhere — email, social media, messaging apps, and Windows/Android devices without any compatibility issues.
For web publishing — browsers do not support HEIF. Convert HEIF to WebP or HEIF to AVIF for optimized web images that maintain HEIF's excellent quality at small file sizes. Convert HEIF to PNG for lossless editing or graphics with transparency.
For print workflows — professional printing typically requires TIFF or JPG. Convert HEIF before sending files to print shops, publishers, or stock photo platforms that do not accept HEIF.
When to Convert To HEIF
Converting to HEIF is useful primarily within the Apple ecosystem. Convert JPG to HEIF or PNG to HEIF to reduce photo library storage on iPhone, iPad, and Mac — HEIF is roughly 50% smaller than JPG with comparable visual quality.
HEIF also supports features that JPG lacks: 10-bit color depth, alpha transparency, and image sequences. For users working exclusively within Apple's ecosystem, HEIF is a superior storage format.
For cross-platform web optimization, consider AVIF or WebP instead — they offer similar or better compression with broader platform support. Explore all options in our complete converter catalog.
